Straightening Hair Without the Heat

Heat tools may be harsh on your hair, so you can always avoid them when you are using non-heat tools. If, for example, you want to transition your hair to the natural one then you should find options that don’t involve the use of heat.

Rubber bands

Rubber bandsIf you wish, you can use the hair bands, and the bands will work best to straighten your wavy hair strands.

Nevertheless, for these tools to work for your hair, you will need to use the right oils. Moisturizer is further essential, and it will make it easy to maintain the health of your hair strands.

Hair wrapping

Another one of the most popular methods you may use to get the hair straight without the need for heat tools is head wrapping.

With the different lengths, you can achieve a different level of straightness. Not many people know how to make these headwraps even though it’s not a difficult process.

  • What you need are the long bobby pin and a satin or silk turban. Also, remember to wash the hair with the right shampoo and conditioner first.
  • Section the hair parts that has a lot of hair then comb the hair flat.
  • Wrap your hair strands then and hold them to your scalp. Repeat the process with each of the remaining sections before you cover the hair with the satin head wrap. Go on to sleep with the hair like that.
  • The hair should be a little straight when you wake up.

Use plastic rollers

Use plastic rollersIn the past, we would use the rollers to achieve a straight texture or the wavy one. This is still effective to date. So, you should portion sections of your hair then roll the strands to the rollers. This you should always do before you can go to bed.

They are perfect to use if you have medium to long hair. Also, you should work with a form of damp hair.

Use jumbo rollers

Use jumbo rollersIf you have long hair you need about 6 jumbo rollers. You should, therefore, wash and then dry your hair. Section pieces of the hair and roll them flat on the jumbo rollers. Finish off by securing it with a duckbill clip on either side of the roller.

Let it stay on for a few hours before you unroll it and comb the hair.

Use the different hair straightening products

There are thousands of hair products in the market, but they all help you achieve different results.

If you want to achieve the straight locks, you can use the Sunsilk perfect straight lock shampoo. There are conditioners, hair gels, and hairspray that work for straight hair.

In using the products above, then you will achieve more straight and vibrant looking hair. You should further use the right conditioner and natural oils. When you maintain your strands then the style lasts longer.

Use the straightening mask

For the effective results, you could also use the straightening mask, which is a blend of milk and honey. So, take a cup of coconut milk or whole milk and mix in a tablespoon of honey. Apply it on your hair and let it sit on for at least one hour. Wash it our dry your hair, and comb it out.

You can also use the two cups of milk and an egg. Apply on the hair or soak the hair strands on it for 10 minutes, then cover it with a plastic shower cap for 30 minutes. Wash your hair with a good shampoo and brush it out.

You should apply this mixture at least twice a week for two consecutive months to achieve the straight locks.

Sleep with your wet hair

This is one of the methods I don’t use, but it does seem to work. I’m afraid of tangles, so I avoid sleeping with my hair wet by all means.

So, all you need to do is wrap your hair once you have washed it then go to sleep. If you like, you can also use the big plastic rollers on the hair. So, you should tie a loose ponytail on your crown then wrap the hair with a satin head wrap.

Also, sleep on a satin pillowcase. This pillowcase will make sure your hair doesn’t friction up.

How to Straighten Hair Without Flat Iron

There are other methods that you may use in the straightening of the hair where you can use the chemical treatments

Keratin treatment

This is one of the most popular straightening methods. They feature some of the safest options to use when you are going for straight hair. The essence of the keratin treatment is to add to you strands some more keratin protein.

With the treatment, your strands will remain strong and smooth. So, you can apply the keratin to the hair strands then use the flat iron to seal in the mixture. This method does create a moisture barrier. In the end, your hair is frizz-free and moisture resistant.

This hair strand will soon regain its structure, and after six months you will need to redo the straightening. Remember to use the right shampoos for the strands of hair.

Japanese straightening

In this case, you use both the heat and chemicals. Japanese straightening method is your smoothing and straightening method that further conditions your hair. When you use this method, then you should know that it’s a permanent solution.

How it works is that the chemical loosens your hair protein bonds. It then restructures the bond to make the hair straight. Since it’s a permanent style, you should know that it’s a process that will take a long time to make.

You will then need to go back to the salon for the last process after a few days. This means that you will need to invest your time on the hair. The hair will remain straight for about six months, but you should nourish it to avoid the damaging effects.

Chemical straightening

The other method to use in the straightening without heat is the regular chemical straightening. Like the two methods above, this style will loosen the protein bonds. Once it breaks several bonds in your curly or straight hair, then the hair becomes straight.

Remember, you will need the help of a professional to make sure just enough bonds are broken. It’s a stringent process that could damage your hair, so you should be careful when using it.

Use cold air

You can always blow dry your hair using the cold settings of the blow-dry. But you should do this once you have let your hair airdry. Go on to section your hair parts and start to straighten it using the coldest setting of your blow-dry.

For it to work, you need to consistently move the blow dry from the ends to the roots. Notice that it will take longer to achieve straight hair, but it does work.

Steps to Straighten the Hair Without Flat Iron

For all the DIYers out there, straightening your hair at home should be fun, but if you don’t use the heat nor chemicals, take the following steps.

  • The right shampoo

If you have curly or wavy hair and you wish to achieve the straight locks, you should start by using the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair. Some shampoos are designed to deliver the straight locks; those are the ones to buy.

Once you have washed your hair, you should use the right conditioner.

  • Dry using the right towel

Go on to use the microfiber towel for the hair. The reason why you use it is that it’s gentler on your hair than the regular towel. Remember, for this method, you should have fine hair, but it shouldn’t be curly rather a little wavy.

Next, add the right serum and smoothing cream to smoothen the cuticles.

Start combing or brushing your hair from the roots to the ends. When you are sure you don’t have any knots and tangles, you can brush it from the roots going to the ends. Also, try to pull the hair gently. This will help to straighten the hair.

  • Use the rollers

If you want the hair to straighten out completely, you should use the rollers. Go for the jumbo rollers and section your hair to pieces. Roll of your hair on the rollers and then clip it. Once you have the rollers on, let it rest for a few hours as it continues to dry.

  • Finish up

When you are sure the hair is dry, remove the rollers and once again brush the hair using a boar brush.

Finally, spray the anti-frizz spray or anti-humidity spray on the hair, and this should coat your hair strands, keeping frizz-free.

Straightening Hair Tips

  • Use the right brush

Whether you are using the heat or not, you will need a good rush that is also gentle on your hair. You shouldn’t use a brush that will pull off the strands. A boar brush is a good idea if you want to be gentle with your hair.

  • It’s better to brush than to comb

While you may be tempted to comb the hair when you are straightening the hair with heat or without, you should use a brush. When you have dry hair, you should never use a comb as it causes the static. Therefore, you should brush your dry hair but comb the wet one.

  • Make use of oils

When you will use the flat iron, or you intend to work on the hair a lot, you will need the nourishing oils. Once you have conditioned the strands, you can use the oils to seal the cuticles. Some of the oils are also good as they go deep into the strand to nourish it from within.

  • Hair mask

The hair mask will not only condition the strands, but it also delivers shiny strands and makes it easy to straighten the locks. Use the mask to provide the protein reconstruction once you have damaged them when using the strong chemicals for the straightening.

  • Heat protectant

If you have to use the flat iron, you should use the heat protectant sprays to protect your strands. The good thing is that you can use it on the damp hair, but make sure you set the flat iron at the right temperature.

  • Be gentle

The only way to keep the hair healthy and strong is by being gentle. Use the right towels for your hair and the right brushes. When drying the hair, don’t rough it up.
